Laurent,

The Capacitor in the MP2x00 is only there to provide power for the clock
and date functions to continue while you exchange battery packs. So if
your re-chargeable pack is going dead or your battery cage with alkalines
is going dead. You are supposed to turn your newt off, take out the
pack and replace with either new alkalines or recharged pack, then turn
your newt on again.

During the short time your newt is without a battery pack, the capacitor
keeps the date and time functions running to preserve the current date
and time. I believe it also keeps certain preference settings. The
capacitor was not meant to run the newt for any length of time at all.

hope this helps,
-tom
