The capacitor has one function, to maintain the Date & Time.

The memory is based on Flash RAM, therefore NO power is required to maintain info.
However, info. in DRAM is lost when power is lost. Such as the calculations in the built-in calc., the info. is gone unless you transfer to an app.

In OMP-MP130, the round, thin lithium battery was the backup.

In MP2x00, the capacitor was introduced.
