I don't know about the cleverer part, but yes, you can use NIE 1.1 on a
2100, but even better (though I'm not sure that it'll work) might be to
forget NIE 2.0, just put the add on packages for ethernet on your card (hope
that sytem 2.0 will accept them) and move those to your 2100 because you
don't need NIE 2.0 to make ethernet work, only the add ons that came with
it.
