The dongle is interchangeable. As cable you'll need another one which
fits into your PC's serial port connector (DB25 or DB9).

I would say that you can feel happy if you where able to backup AND
restore successfully.

The standard software from Apple is the less worse available for the
essential things like backups/restores. For data exchange I had good
results with X-port too but will do the most with my beloved Macs @
home.

Not only BG, also your PC dealer and your PC supporter, which will try
now the sell you his assistence time. I hope for you, that you will be
able to help yourself. I was in the same situation like you about 2
years ago. Meanwhile I'm used to the limitations of NT.
