Alternate 2" but though it dialed it couldn't make a PPP connection and my
fax reported an error when I tried to fax to myself.
Seem to remember that somebody once said on this list that this modem should
work without a problem, anybody any ideas (do I need Modem Modifier for the
first time in my life ?)

You may need the gv_ tele.pkg available from Kenneth's NewtonMad. I tried Modem Modifier with my 56K Megahertz. The latest version is 2.02 which allows you to push connect speeds above 56K. I tried to use it to boost performance but so far no noticeable effects.
