1.x terminal emulators:
<DD><A HREF="http://www.exmachina.com">PocketCall</A> from Air Media
(formerly Ex Machina)
<DD><A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/ResearchTriangle/9987/">NewtTerm
terminal program</A> 1.x

1.x email clients:
<DD><A
HREF="http://dialspace.dial.pipex.com/town/road/aah66/">SimpleMail</A> 2.x,
1.x
I think also:
<DD><A HREF="http://www.enfour.com/us/newton/products/index.html">GoFetch,
Unimail (1.x)</A> (Enfour)
<DD><A HREF="http://newton.lunatech.com/">LunaSuite, LunaMail</A> (LunaTech)
Aloha(AOL) used to work on 1.x, but wasn't upgraded AFAIK when AOL changed
protocols again.

now, assuming you could get email working, you could even "browse" the web
in a limited fashion on 1.x systems. you could setup mailto: proxy which
would return web pages via email. which you could then process/display via
Newt's Cape. (you could also use Newt's Cape on pages in Notes that you'd
saved from terminal emulator, or transferred from desktop)
