NTLK To Protect or Not To Protect

Two cents here...

I started my Newton experience with an eMate and loved every second of it. After hearing someone on the list tell another poster who was anti-protection "Well, if you scratch the screen you're
screwed..." I realized I didn't even know protection was offered. I purchased some slip-in mylar sheets from a place in Canada (can't rememebr the name, sorry) and really disliked them. They scratched
easily, they didn't last long, they'd slide around a bit inside the side grooves of the screen housing, and crud built up at the seam between the protector and the screen.

When I got a MP2K on ebay this past autumn, I decided to find a good reliable screensaver and so I polled the group. The consensus seemed to be with the writeRight available from
www.conceptkitchen.com -- however, when I receivd the protectors I was very disappointed to find that they were adhesive and getting them on the screen without air bubbles or lint trapped underneath
them was horrible. Also, they seemed to dull the screen and therefore the visibility.

But, hey I paid for them and so I figured I'd give it a try.

Theupshot is that now I love them (although they are still hell to get on properly). I like the simulated "papery" feel they give me when I write; the bare screen is too slick for me now. They seem
particularly durable as well, last about a month with some intensive writing being done on a daily basis. And with the backlight on, the dull screen problem is greatly reduced. It does eat power
quicker, but it's worth it for the visibility.

I reccommend Concept Kitchen. Inexpensive. Durable. Good peace of mind knowing it's less likely I'll scratch the screen. My only complaint is the difficulty of installation -- but nobody's perfect.

My two cents is more than I realized.
