Sounds like a defective card to me. I always tested my used cards that I
bought (as I gradually got bigger and bigger ones!) by making big voice
recordings. Set it at 4k/sec and record about a meg at a time. Doesn't take
too long. If you MP freezes or jams, your card is bad bad bad. Anyone
remember those cisco cards that were selling cheap? Everyone got a 16 meg
card, they formated as 20 and we thought it was a bonus, but once you hit about
meg 14, everything went screwy. My screwy was a lot like what you describe.
If you can, try using it in a powerbook and see if it works there. I think
it's a bad card personally.
