I did the installation myself and it does require a very fine soldering
iron, a steady hand and a magnifying glass, in my case. I took it very
slowly and studied every move and I think the whole operation took about 3
hours. I used silver plated wire wrap wire, which you can buy at Radio
Shack which is better, IMHO than using the lacquer insulated wire that I got
with my unit. But it's not impossible. It's not hard to screw it up
though. I risked it because I have a spare unit and I didn't get a response
from Oliver at Pix about having him do it even though I'd moved to Germany
between the time I bought the board and the time I wanted to install it.
For me, the upgrade has been well worth it and I haven't had any problems
with it. If you want to try it yourself I have a series of pictures that I
took as I disassembled my machine for a screen repair that might give you
some idea of what your getting into. I can annotate them to show what
actually has to be done. There are 27 jpegs that take a total of about 1Mb,
I think. I'll be glad to email them to you.

Wow!! I had no idea. I figured 2 weeks with out Newton. 1 month would be
nearly impossible. Last time I did it, I had my wifes as a back up to use as
I copied my back up over to hers, and went on. She did okay with out hers
while mine was upgraded, but not me! :)
Is there no one in the states offering that upgrade? If I bought the parts
from him, who should I look for in the local area that could do it? Not
specifically, but generally? I know a few HAMs that I could try.
Thanks for reply! I feel like I definately want it. BTW, what went wrong on
your installation? How did you mess up. Say I spend $100 and get a really
good iron, would that do the trick?
