My 2100 has some minor scratches on the screen and case, and i think the
backlight is fading as it ages. Can people who have used the Apple
repair service tell me if they are getting their Newtons back or are
they actually being shipped replacement units (an Apple manouvre i came
across over a 17" monitor last year). With no new handheld in sight it
may be time for us serious Newton devotees to go into the renovation
business.

When I sent my uMP2k in to Apple Canada for repair a month and a half ago, all they did Was try to turn it on (which it wouldn't) and then they shipped me a replacement unit. This was all done at the Apple Canada office in Toronto (meaning that Apple Canada does not work with the Newton Repair Depot in Memphis)

So, I have no clue what would happen in the USA :)
