NTLK Newton Synchronisation (was A Coding Call to Arms: Future Projects (was Hotline))

This could be completely irrelevant (because I know about as much about
synchronising technology as I do about ATA drivers, i.e. nothing) but might
it be worth a look at (i.e. chat to the developers of) a product like
TrueSync (http://www.starfish.com/). Their web site is very confusing so
I'll try to explain what little I understand of their product (I used it a
bit during my days living on the dark side (i.e. when I had a palm pilot)).

It appears (I say appears because I have no idea how it works technically, I
can only describe it from a user's point of view) to have a core engine
which co-ordinates the synchronisation process between as many devices/PIMs
as you please. The condition being that each device/PIM has to have a
special 'plug-in' written that will communicate with the core engine
(presumably providing data in a standard format and providing some field
mapping functionality). So, assuming my speculations are correct (which of
course they may not be) all that would be needed is to have this 'plug-in'
written for the Newton (easier said than done) and it would then be able to
sync with any other device that TrueSync currently supports. Sounds too
good (and easy) to be true so it probably is.

I'd send these guys an email myself but I'm not au fait with how the Newton
handles data (or the issues involved in syncing) and so am likely to make a
complete idiot of myself (which you'd think I'd be used to!). Maybe someone
who thinks that this might be worth pursing and feels more comfortable with
the subject might want to do so.

Regards,

Patrick.

Or, you provide a single application, like Palm, and all synchronizing
is under your control, but people can't use something else, or am I
wrong here?
