I had it too, until I renabled the Palm extensions.

On the Newton, maybe. Dunno about the Palm. There are certainly Palm
notepad replacement, but I don't know if they work properly with Palm
Desktop for Mac. And they don't address the checklist/outline and other
issues at all, anyway.
