NTLK Newton information for a prospective new user...

Hi everyone, new to the list (a crossover from Powerbook Mailing List
Powerlist)

I was hoping someone could possibly help me out with a few questions I would
really appreciate it.

I have been looking at a Palm Pilot for a long time for using in my classes
at school. However, my knowledge of the NEwton (which is still quite limited
despite some reading up I'm doing right now) is that the newton is a far
superior product. I really love the idea of *REAL* handwriting recognition
and the ability to draw graphical notes as well (simple diagrams, maps,
etc.)

My main problem however is that my funds (as a student) are relatively
limited...but...still I have a few bucks to spend on this investment.

I also am a very cautious shopper, and never having really spent much time
with a Newton, and it also being a discontinued product, I can't buy it
knew with the option to return if I dislike it. Does anyone know of a way I
could perhaps try out a Newton before buying it?

I want to be able to see how practical it really would be for notes and such
in class (instead of a notebook), the practical synching capabilities
between it and my powerbook (wallstreet II 300/CD), as well as the quality
of the handwriting recognition.

Does anyone know if there is perhaps a Newton Users group in the Storrs or
Hartford, CT area?

Thanks a lot for anyone who can offer some help.
