The system is somewhat more sophisticated now, but allegedly still capable
of being spoofed - haven't messed with in 20 years or more.

Like, maybe, .... tying in the continent-spanning (so called) "super trunk
lines" that were in use then, or creating general havoc with your
local/regional switching office ?
