I've never ever done a backup over Ethernet faster than 15min. I think 5mins
is possible only w/o b/u of packages and very little amount of data. What
sizes of the important soups do you have?
Here's what I have to deal with:
calls: 226k
todos: 124k
names: 570k
newtworks: 385k
notes: 401k
qfigure: 761k
dates: 310k
and about 20 other soups with sizes between 1...80k

All together results in only 2.4MB card backupfile and 1.5MB internal b/u
and takes about 40min. Backing up packages fails currently with my Newton
because of, IMHO, a corrupted package or some problem just at the beginning
of the package b/u process (error -1) just after successful b/u of notes
(alphabet N->O->Packages->boom...). If I disable package b/u the card b/u
runs just fine (7MB card filled, 2.4MB data, 4.6MB programs).
If a backup stops with error -1 in most cases the error can be tracked down
to either a corrupted package or crappy data. A brain wipe is highly
desirable.
