I use a Mead Five-Star zipper-closure day planner shell. I slid out
the rings, lined it with automotive headliner material, et voila, the
trick, she is done.

The case holds Newt snugly, while the covers extend a bit beyond the
perimiter of Newt, providing extra clearance in case of bumps and
bruises. I've already dropped Newt (sorry) hard enough to unseat my
modem, and everything survived. I don't recommend doing this, but
it's nice to know there's some protection.

The only disadvantage is that you have to unzip the shell around 3
sides of Newt to unpack him. Then do something with the shell while
you work. It's possible to open them both and work, but it's not
very secure. I prefer holding Newt in my hot little hands.
