Andrew,

Welcome to the community! We have a thriving bunch here, and most are
dedicated to helping each other out, so don't be afraid to ask when you
have a question.

The best place to start for a newbie is the FAQ that is hosted in several
places. You can find it at: <http://hometown.aol.com/thisolnewt/>. This
'Ol Newt is hosted by Rich Lindsay who has quite a bit of info on his
site as well as the FAQ. Check his links as well for other Newton pages.
For downloads, a number of archives exist. Try
<http://www.chuma.org/newton/ncage/> for starters. You'll need the Newton
Connection Kit for the 120 to back up your data to your Mac. It works
fine with 9.x, just remember that it uses older versions of some
connection toolkit extensions and it may need to be reinstalled after
some software installs that replace them with newer versions.

As for system updates, that's mostly beyond the time constraints of our
very talented programmers. There are some exciting projects in the
works, however, including ATA drivers to use common PC cards instead of
the linear flash cards required by the Newton. There is software called
BackTalk which can allow IR communication with the Palm OS and some other
projects in beta right now. Keep reading and you'll get all the info you
need!
