I think the reasoning was....
Once upon a time sales were brisk and users were aplenty.
Then The Newt was canceled by Steve.
Sales became slow ( of Aloha)
Then AOL changed their mail protocol.......
Hardy upgraded the software to 2.7 to comply with the new protocol.
If I remember only thirty or so folks purchased the upgrade. ( price may have
been an issue?)
This was not enough to keep hardy interested in supporting the product any
further. It seems that AOL could and will change their mail protocol again in
the future. With so few perople interested in doing an upgrade it would not
be worth the time to upgrade again. So instead of selling a product he is not
going to update. Selling a product which could not be useful at any moment(
if/when AOL changes again) and having angry customers he can not support in a
manner he sees as adaquate he pulled the product.
I fully understand his point of view.

Im glad that my Aloha still works. ( except with the 1-800 dial up)
