You can get an early release of the new Zaurus if you''ve been a registered
developer at http://developer.sharpsec.com/ . For me, I see only one
problem: Stuff from Sharp tends to suck.... :-/
The ZR-5000 Zaurus series were slow, but useful. But Sharp would never
release the SDK except to a select handful. The result: only a few
3rd-party apps, and in the end, even fewer users. That's the one area
where the Newton and Palm both shine.. there's a HUGE number of apps out
there for both of them.
Then Sharp moved to the Mobilon... what a joke... First there was the fact
that the 4500 would have random lockups and "white screens of death" on a
regular basis. Then there was that nasty little problem with the battery
overheating during a recharge and damn near having a meltdown in my
device...! The next time I want my PDA to overheat and have a meltdown
during recharge I'll built it myself... :P
As of the new Zaurus, if they had included a real HWR engine in this I
would be more interested. As it is I'll have to wait for one to be
ported... Or to be made available from Agenda Computing from their VR3
device (if it's even real...).
The fact that Java is part of it, makes anything else on that unit
gravy. But.. it's from Sharp.. and I don't have faith in them anymore... :-/
