Oh, don't get started on a Mac/Windows debate - if you do, you'll find out
I'm Mac all the way. I'm not criticizing the products - I'm criticizing the
part of the company that takes a great product and makes decisions that lead
to inevitable failure.

And my statements in the previous e-mail are based on my own comparisons
between my Rev. B iMac and my Gateway PII PC. Don't write them off as
ignorance, cause they're true as far as I can see. What did people have
problems with...

Standard hard disk space. My iMac and my Gateway both came with 4GB hard
disks. I use both computers pretty much equally, and the iMac disk filled up
far before the Gateway disk. Why? Because whereas I have maybe 20 programs
installed on my Gateway to use regularly, I have about three times that many
installed on the Mac - and use it more for high-storage-need activities, like
photo manipulation and such. Have you ever installed a piece of software on a
PC? It's usually like "OK, install, try it out, reconfigure it, download the
patch, reconfigure, try it out, tweak, try it out, get fed up with it,
uninstall, find the equivalent for the Mac, uninstall, never bother with it
again." And Quark on Windows is a joke. So while I went out and bought a USB
hard disk to use on my iMac, the Windows hard disk didn't start filling up
until I turned it into my mp3/e-mail computer - aside from Office, the only
thing on the hard disk is Winamp and mp3s - the nifty speakers that came with
the computer didn't hurt, either.

There's my two cents - the other stuff in my e-mail could be endlessly
debated - as the whole Mac-vs.-PC argument has shown (What, 17 years now?).
If you want to keep debating, e-mail me privately. And sorry for filling your
inboxes with such garbage - looks like no one agreed with me. Oh well.

As for people criticizing the iPod... it's not because people are bitter over
Apple killing Newton, or that they're power-users that want more than Joe Q.
Computer User needs... well, at least in my case... it's a person that
genuinely likes Apple products and is bothered by, what he perceives as Apple
getting the chance to outdo the competition - because we know the talent is
there - and giving us something that gives us a taste of greatness, but is
riddled with flaws that don't have to be. If they want it to be great, and
charge a premium, they better put features on there that no one can touch -
and that people won't mind paying the premium for. As far as I can see, the
Rev. A iPod isn't cutting it.

I'd written two more paragraphs and had just gotten rolling, but I don't want
to make this e-mail take three minutes to download. So yeah. Relax, and sorry
if I ruffled your feathers. Later.
