this started out as one question, and well, I just kept on thinking of
things to ask. Although I would normally promote typing your answer at the
top of the reply, I would accept replies in the middle. But only this once.

1. one of the cables I got with my 2100 is a strange USB to apple serial.
has anyone ever seen one of these? I thought it might be used to connect a
USB Mac to a Newton (like a keyspan), but it doesn't seem to work, and I
can't figure out what else it could be used for.

2. How long will a backlight work? I'm always kind of afraid of using the
backlight because I am uncertain of it's longevity. However, using it makes
the Newton much more enjoyable. Should I continue to use it as sparingly as
possible?

3.Should a "brain wipe" be done regularly or only if you are experiencing
problems? How do you do a brain wipe?

If I back everything up, wipe and then restore will everything work OK
including internet and dial up settings?

there are a whole pile of Soup cleaners. How does one determine if a
soup(and I still don't really know exactly what one is) should be removed.
Is the idea of "soup maintenance" something I should mess with?
