[NTLK] Should I take an oak stake to this MP130?

My backlight died. It didn't dim. It didn't fade. One day, I just woke up
and it wasn't there.
I tried the "leave it for 24 hours with the power switch on" routine. Same
problem.
When I listen to the 130 and press the button down to put the backlight on,
I hear the added whine of the backlight and then when I press the button
again, the added whine goes away.
Is there anything else I can try before driving an oak stake this thing, or
at least sending it in for repair?
