For the information of all Newtontalk listers, I've just bought a brand new
Pretec CompactFlash Modem and found that it works as advertised provided you
also get Pretec's "Active" PCMCIA adapter that converts the 5V coming off a
Newton to the 3.3V that the CompactFlash Modem requires. All you need do is
set it to "28.8 and faster" on a Newton MP2100 and it works without the need
of drivers. This modem can be purchased online at http://www.pretec.com (I
have no connection with Pretec other than being a satisfied customer of both
their Newton--compatible linear flash cards and now, their modem).
