This might not help, if e.g. only one cell is dead. I had an old PB accu too
and didn't want to pay the 90USD for a new accu. The Apple dealer let me
pick-up exactly the same accu from his accu trash for free and at home I
opened both accus and measured cell voltages. It turned out that both accus
had about 3 out of 10 defective cells and there where enough cells to get
all defective cells of one accu replaced. The amazing thing was that the PB
started w/o initial charging and showed about 20% remaining charge on the
refurbished accu.
