Hi again cool knowledgeable people,
This is a bit long & rambling, so ignore readily.
TOC:
=A71: Handwriting for good recognition
=A72: Cool uses for an MP, except that they don't work
=A73: Whatever I've missed
My setup: MP2000, DE660 ethernet, 64MB CF card (ATA support 1.0b13D).
=A71: Handwriting
There was a recent thread suggesting that the HWR is only "perfect" for
printed text. My interpretation of Newton HRW is as follows:
I think the following is obvious.
PROPOSITION:
Handwriting that "closely resembles" printed
text is "accurately" recognised.
COROLLARY:
"Neat" handwriting is "accurately" recognised.
* "prefect in the sense of intended use.
* "closely resembles" in the sense of "you write like a typewriter, you
automaton. Have you considered a job at Microsoft?"
* "neat" in the sense that any other human being that speaks the same
language would agree on the word you have written.
(This is not at all a trivial criterion!)
* "accurately" in the sense that the intended text appears
in the list of interpretation options.
Now here's the main bit.
THEOREM:
Larger handwriting is recognised more accurately.
Yea! The space provided for writing in certain places is too small to write
nice and large.
So does anyone have anything to add?
=A72 Uses
OK, so I already use my MP to...
* Schedule everything I have to do (hell, sometimes I even do it!).
* Make notes (saved a rain-forest of paper, felt really self-righteous).
* Contact people who I couldn't be bothered to put into my mobile
phone 'cos it takes _so long_!
...the usual!
But also...
* Play MP3s with MAD Max
Well, I would but the playback stutters.
* telnet
I can almost exist through telnet! But input without a keyboard its
just silly!
* Change stations on the TV
Our TV isn't compatible, and I don't have time to watch TV anyway.
* Spreadsheets that you've just GOT to have with you.
(NewtWorks) but only one at once, 'cos there's no way to switch
between them.
=A73 You tell me!
What am I missing?
P.S. "You know you're a Newton user when you've used the backlight to find
your way in the dark"
I'm proud to say "that's me"!
Richard.
