Nope, it's the former. I use a Handspring Visor, and the only reason I
tolerate it is 1) VisorPhone 2) Color screen for Solitaire 3) fits in shirt
pocket.
The Palm OS is very limited in functionality, conflicting UI depending on
the program, crashes a lot (nope, no 'hacks' installed). People complain
about the Newt's anemic backup software; however often when synching my
Visor I get documents identified as an application. I've never seen things
like this happen on the Newt. The loss of battery dumps all data. The screen
and most icons on it are too small.
Some of my favorites, for a product designed as Rolodex replacement. The
address book allows any number of e-mail and phone numbers (as long as it's
no more than 5); does not let you identify a name as a 'Person' or
'Company'; has only one address per entry, no title (Mr. Mrs.). There's
dozens more.
Parenthetically I e-mailed the developers of MoreInfo about making a Palm
MoreInfo, as they develop Palm products. They laughed, as the Palm OS can't
support the linking the Newton's 'data soups' allow.
All my serious data collection, meeting notes, etc., is done with a Newton.
And when I bash other platforms (note the skillful flame avoidance, but
longtime readers know...) I base it on a decade of experience.
