When I play with my friends' Palms, I have two reactions that never go away
for me. One is the Graffiti. I suppose I could get used to it, but losing
the ability to write and edit anywhere I want, i.e. the integration of the
stylus and writing on the screen, is very frustrating to me. I quickly lose
patience, even though I try so hard not to. I think that instead of getting
used to Graffiti, it would grow very old, very fast for me. This is my
experience, not somebody else's. Secondly, I feel very, very cramped. The
screen is just so small and cramped feeling, that I feel like I'm looking at
the world through a paper towel tube. I sometimes feel that way on a Newton,
so the Palm is not the only guilty party for this, but with the Palm, it's
constant, and in every app. I also think that, because of the tiny screen
real estate, the means of navigating through the Palm is a bit more complex,
and less intuitive. This impression, however, is probably due more to
ignorance as to how the Palm OS operates, but I think that how it operates
is dictated by the small screen size.
