Without knowing the type of glue that was used, it
will be very difficult to come up with a method of
removal.
Generally, these are the methods used to remove some
of the common glues.
There are three type of solvent based glues. Epoxy
(usually two part) contact (rubber cement falls under
this category) and your "instant glues" identified by
the main ingredient being cyan-acrylic or some
derivation thereof (interesting trivia...the
"super-glue" was created when the question was asked
what holds barnacles to the hulls of boats? A lab
attempted to reproduce the bonding properties and came
up with the crystaline glue we now call Super Glue)
Most of the acrylic or styrene glues can be removed
through a liberal application of Acetone.
Unfortunatly, most plastics are also removed with
acetone. Other methods can be effective though.
Some of the more successful methods include
Nitro-Methane. Not as unstable as you might guess,
there are some plastics that are immune to it. You can
usually get this from hobby shops. Also check out
LockTite. They make their business on this stuff.
Lighter fluid (benzene)..you know, the stuff that you
fill up your Zippo with? While not as effective as the
acetone or nitro-methane, can have limited success
after liberal soaking.
I have found that patroleum jelly sometimes can help
in softening the glue. Leave the jelly on overnight,
or even several days, then pick the glue off with a
wooden implement (to reduce the damage to the plastic)
Something I found that works better than I thought is
freeze spray. If the item is flexible, you can spray
it with freeze spray, then slowly bend the item (being
careful not to breakt it...) and the glue with peel
off.
I hope this helps...keep in mind that if you test a
part of the Newton with any of these solvents, you
will need to test on a section of the screen...
