I have a uMP2000 that I have been using for ~1 year now. I
recently bought a couple of 2100 originals intending to
keep the uMP2000 as a backup... Cosmetically and in terms
of CPU and memory and OS, they are the same.

But, among my units, the screens are different. The
low-light (with no backlight) contrast of the 2100 screens
is better, while the u2000 screen has better contrast in
direct sunlight or with the backlight on. The 2100 screens
are "gold" and at a certain narrow angle with the backlight
off, the text looks almost like black ink on gold leaf --
very readable indeed. The 2000 has no such "perfect"
viewing angle (it always looks like an LCD), but it is much
more visible at wide angles, while the 2100 screen suffers
from typical LCD viewing angle problems (i.e. over-dark in
one direction, washes out in the other direction, but good
straight-on.)

The touchscreen is also different -- the uMP 2000 screen is
smoother and "faster" with a hard pen like the titanium
stylus while the 2100 screens give a more rough feel with
some resistance (like writing on paper using a ball pen).
Paradoxically, with a "soft" pen (like a cross writer) the
2100's touchscreen, with its lower clearance, begins to
feel faster.

All in all, I prefer the display on the 2000 for the wider
viewing angle and "faster" touchscreen with the titanium
stylus, but I have shown the units to others and let others
(gingerly) write on my screens and some have definitely
preferred the 2100 screens without a doubt.

Note that I'm not sure this is a model division; it may be
that there were just different screen manufacturers that
Apple used and some of each type of screen may have made it
into each line. Anyone know for sure?
