Ha! That's funny...Have you ever tried to connect a
Newt to an Iridium phone? First, the bandwidth of the
Iridium system would not establish a reliable
connection (tested with a Wintel machine) Second, for
some reason, the Iriduim would not take any of the
modem cards that the Newt understood. Something with
the touch-tone sounds being square-wave not being
recognized by the Iridium system. We eventually had to
jury rig up a ComSat sat-phone and a Mac Duo280c so
that that expedition to the "north"? pole could leave
on time...You're probably aware of it...that's the
expedition where that doctor had to be airlifted in
the middle of winter? The company I worked for rented
the sat-phone for that...Too bad I couldn't get the
Newt to talk on the sat-phone...given a bit more time
though, I probably could have developed a work
around...
