I cannot speak to the difficulty of replacing a single symbol in the=20
internal fonts. However, Apple's solution to adding the Euro symbol to=20=

the MacRoman font set (also used in the Newton) was to replace the=20
rarely-used character at option-shift-2, which originally looked like a=20=

circle with some diagonal lines coming out of it, and now has been=20
replaced with the Euro (here it is for Mac email programs: =80). That=20=

should be the choice for Newtons as well (try typing option-shift-2 on=20=

your Newton onscreen keyboard, and you'll see the symbol).
