Try "Namigator" from Catamount: ( www.catamount.com ) - I've been using this for years and find it indispensable
Does exactly what you requested - and made the Names directory useful for me. Because its used to access the names only,
it leaves the soup itself intact.
Usual caveats - satisfied customer only, no other interest in company, etc etc
AFAIR, there are Dashboard/GestureLaunch scripts that do similar sort of things......anyone?
