Maybe a lame solution, but I had a 2100 once that had the same problem.

I worked the memory card out by using pliers (in a very delicate fashion !)
and replaced it with a modem card and put the memory card in the other slot.

Problem solved, though not in the most elegant fashion, I must admit.
