I'm sure that any peripheral I buy in the future will be USB or Firewire,
but I really don't want to replace my current ones yet. They work great.

That's the problem sometimes in that the network is not available. Either
the card or LAN is bust or something else and all you want to do is get a
file from the Mac to the PC 5 feet away. Even finding a cross-over cable and
configuring the networking takes much longer than writing and reading a
floppy.

That's not to say that I want to see floppy life prolonged, I just want
reliable file transfer at all times. Networks have a long way to go until
they're "always on".

Or those cute optical mice Apple makes. :-)

I prefer the term geek to nerd. My home LAN is 100BT switched with a G4
server doing double duty as an AirPort base station. An iMac is my MP3
player reading the files over AirPort from the G4. For that old 7100 in the
basement I can always string an Ethernet cable to it or use a Zip. At home,
I never need floppies. At work, with the PC folks, well that's a different
story.
