No, I got the same error message whether Palm Desktop was open or
not. You may be right that ver. 4 is too different from older
versions to work.

I'm not sure I follow. The Organizer file, in the NCU folder, is only
synchronized with the Palm Desktop data file, not the primary data
file for Desktop. When I checked the information for the Organizer
file it shows no extension, but lists the Palm Desktop 4.0 as the
application that will open it.
