the SNS facility in Oak Ridge is built to discover what happens to various
items (real important stuff like bic pens and lawn chairs, with the obvious
sundry alloys included to make the grant money look legitimate) when
they're bombarded by a neutron stream... don't know that this is directly
related to computing but could develop a heck of a good ruggedized pda
case!

Geez, that cool. Multifunction copiers, AND desktop printing, a full,
what, 9? years before they hit the mainstream? Is Xerox PARC still doing
things, or is their 'Golden Age' of innovation (the GUI, Ethernet, etc)
over? Are there any other well-known research labs that people think will
be likely to turn out the next "undiscovered gems" of innovation?
