Everyone has valid points, two camps are forming, beginnings of a holy
flame war, schisms in the Mac religion. I hope we can keep things
level-headed.
My beef is the high-price point. No upgrade pricing for X.2 is a slap in
the face to everyone who's been forking out for a beta (albeit a good beta)
. And charging for .mac is OK, but $100 a year is out of most people's
range. I'm not alone it seems.
I can live without both of these. Probably wait for X.3, I can skip a cycle.
Apple's just lost $129, or whatever would've been a "fair" (and not "fair"
to a guy who drives around in a jet) price for an "upgrade". I'll probably
keep my mac.com e-mail for a year, maybe split with some friends to drop
the price (thanks for the help.apple.com link earlier Jeff).
Marketing and pricing are important to companies. Too high a price and you'
ll make ~less~ money than you would at a lower price (Apple's problem all
along?) Along with that you'll create a lot of ill will, which we're seeing
en masse. I think, and feel free to disagree, Apple blew this one big time.
FWIW I'm getting out a pen and paper and sending my thoughts to 1 Infinite
Loop. Won't bring back "phone support for life" (remember that and the
reaction it caused?) or our beloved green friend though.

P.S. Bet all you Windows users are bored with this thread already! :-)
