It all depends on your storage needs/desires.
For example, let's say that you want to be able to store (carry with you)
256MB worth of information (apps, data, pics, sound).
You can purchase a 256MB CF card for about $120. Add a PC Card adapter
for $10. ...and the fee for Paul's ATA Driver (here after referred to
PAD) of $50 (using 1 to 1 for Euros to $). The total for this solution
is $180.
With 32MB LFM, that would take 8 cards. You can purchase used cards for
$30 to $35 each. So that would be $240 to $280 for used cards.
In this example, using PAD as your solution would save your hard earned
money.
The break even point is around 128MB, depending on what price you can
find the LFM and CF cards.
But here is a key benefit to using PAD besides cost.
PAD supports regular CF memory so you could use your memory for multiple
purposes like Digital Camera memory, or a way to transfer files from work
to home and vice versa.
With LFM, you are basically limited to using it in your Newt.
Another benefit to using PAD is that you have to carry fewer cards with
you.
In the example above, say I use a modem and a memory card. That would
mean that I would need to carry 7 extra cards if I went the LFM route.
Where as using Paul's ATA Driver, I only need to put the memory in the
Newt and carry no extra cards. Convenient.
Again, it all depends on your storage needs -- each of us are different
with regard to what we want/need to store. Get the solution that best
works with your situation.
