i just took mine off with a micro-screwdriver. there's an airport
antenna that pops out when you do this, and a message comes up:
  Do you want to enable the AirPort network and color screen?

yes, it comes off fairly easily. just a chinzy sticker-button-thingy.
now that it's off, though, looks like i'd have to glue it back on, if i
wanted to. ;)
