I think one could modify the hardware to include this functionality.
However, I don't think this is useful because I use my Newton to take notes
during phone calls or look up names and dates. To do all this you need to
see and touch the display. I much prefer to use a separate phone, e.g. the
cordless or the mini-telephone which is as big as a matchbox and very cheap.
Dialling is anyway working very well using the speaker and I think it works
even with cell phones.

For the hardware part of it one would have to disconnect the speaker and MIC
from the Newton hardware and connect them to the modem card, thus somewhere
to the PCMCIA slot. Since this requires soldering it always bears a risk for
killing the Newton for the save of a few bucks of an extra phone.
