I wouldn't recommend to recondition a Newton accu, especially not with an
external discharge circuitry which risks deep discharging (light bulb and
resistor w/o deep discharge protection). I would say that a reconditioning
is not necessary at all, because the Newton draws a moderate current. Using
the Newton in a normal way is just enough to keep the capacity as good as is
possible. If the capacity of an accu pack decreases this simply means end of
the life of at least one cell of the pack, that's it. Reconditioning will
not help in this case but may be even accelerate aging of the accu if not
done properly. The better path is to just replace the cells with high
capacity cells and refurbish the accu pack (see Frank Gruendels Newton
pages) or modification of the battery tray to allow Newton charge (see my
Newton pages).
