Although I cannot give any insight into why this might have happened, I
can say that something very similar once happened to me. Downloading an
email containing a large image file (about 80-90k jpeg file) the system
froze up and, like you, I thought "no biggy" and hit the reset button.
Next thing I knew I had a freshly brain wiped uMP2k and no recent backup
having just come back from a six week overseas holiday!
