hi,

i've been looking at this device also thinking it looks pretty interesting
- but have found two different ratings for power draw i *think*. if you
follow the globetrotter pop-up from http://www.option.com to the "more
info" page you'll see power req. listed as:

--> Registered Full Power: 550mA ave. (2W, Multislot Class 10 operation)

but if you go to the page listed below:

>A brand new device is the Option Globetrotter GSM PC Card that does work in
>900/1800/1900MHZ and supports GPRS, HSCSD, CSD. Anybody tested this device
>in a
>Newton (http://www.option.com/trotter.htm)? It is even smaller than a Nokia
>Card Phone 2.0...

you'll see power listed as:

--> Registered Full Power 350mA max (2W, Multislot Class 10 operation)

i see one is average and one is max but it still doesn't make sense. i
wonder which it really is, and what is the maximum power draw the newt
slots can handle anyway?

aside from that, i have a question about the nokia cardphone and how it
works in the newton. i have been thinking about getting one (for sms - not
really interested in it for calls). the newt has to be on all the time for
the cardphone to receive sms right? if so, this hardly seems practical. is
anybody using their cardphone this way (mostly for sms)? how do you find it?

cheers,

aaron tester
