Sorry, but from what I've heard, your last point is rather mooted by the
cacophony of X-users recommending to fell0w-sufferers that they reformat and
reinstall everything. On 9 and under, I have _never_ had to do this, with
the sole exception of a Duo 230 that somebody sold me that had a third-party
driver installed, that wouldn't let the hard drive sleep without crashing.
In that case, before I used the Duo, I "trashed" the hard drive and
installed a new, Apple driver. This was the only time I've ever had to
reformat a hard drive.

As for extension conflicts and lockups and such, they are rare enough that
they are not a hassle for me. My wife can go weeks or months without a
crash, and I go several days. If I were smart enough to shut off my computer
at least once a week, I probably would never crash either. It's when I start
opening programs, and then closing, and then opening at random, with a whole
string of open apps, and then decide to browse the internet that things get
dicey. I don't have any app that regularly crashes me besides IE. If it were
not for that, I probably would never crash. I've only had one system that
was crash-prone, and my suspicion has always been that the SCSI bus was bad
on it. (oh, and 7.1 was prone to corrupting the Finder) For all our
complaints, the Mac OS has been a very stable beast through the years. I
find it funny that all these years, we've bragged about how wonderful the
Mac OS was in comparison to Windows, but suddenly, we bad-mouth the Classic
OS, like it was the worst thing since Windows 1.0. Something's not right
here...

The Classic Mac OS is still running wonderfully on all our Macs, and there
is nothing in X to draw me to it--yet. Now, if I could use iSync to sync
everything to my Newton and beyond, and even BlueTooth it to my cell
phone--well, maybe then I would switch. I'm waiting for something like that
before I consider. As for now, I'm running as stably, if not more-so than
I've ever run. I will not complain

OH, and I don't have bouncy, morphing icons at the bottom of my screen, nor
a silly, lickable interface. ;-)
