You could also consider installing ethernet extensions via IrDa and
then using an ethernet card instead of serial/irda/wireless.

Or you might discover your mac actually can run OSX if it's one of
those beautiful PCI powermacs with a number between 7300-9600 (except
#8100)...

PS Yes Newtsync does not need Appletalk to use TCP/IP (I'm pretty sure).
