David,

Yes it would help, However, your comments already led me the answer.
Thanks.

I found what I needed in the AppleCare Knowledge Base.

Searched for "7.6.1 Hardware Requirements"

Extract: "Computers with "32-bit clean" 68030 microprocessors. All
computers with 68030 microprocessors are 32-bit clean except the
Macintosh SE/30, Macintosh IIx, and the Macintosh IIcx."

I help folks with old Macs and personnally use a PB170. Never ran across
this issue. Now I know why. I haven't needed to set up one of these
three models. :-o

BTW, I used 7.5.5 for my 840av when using it as my Print Server per se --
ran Laserwriter Bridge on it. I found that I could load a smaller system
footprint with 7.5.5 than 7.6.1 or 8.1, which freed up more HD space for
other backup files.

TIA,

Sushi
