[NTLK] Please help me with DIY serial cable...

Hola, so my MP2k arrives, still in its original box, and with a bunch
of cables, but none that'll connect to my PC (contrary to what the
advert said), I flounder for a minute, then decide to build my own.

I've gone a slightly different route from most people who've put up
instructions on the web, and I expect this will turn out to be the
cause of my problems... Rather than build a male din8 to female db9,
I've build a female din8 to female db9, this allows me to plug the
original newton -> mac cable into my adapter... I've followed all
the pinouts as accurately as I could... But still no joy.

The error message that comes up on the Newton now is: "The connection
attempt was unsuccessful. Please check your cable."

This makes me happy in some ways, as previously the only message I
could get was: "The connection has stopped because there was no
response."

I've checked all my connections with my trusty multimeter, and
nothing appears to be shorted... But who can say if everything isn't
just all the wrong way around entirely, and the number of times I've
desoldered the whole thing to rebuild it is beginning to get
frustrating. To say the least.

If anybody can help me with this, with any pointers at all, I'd be
immensely appreciative... I suspect now that as I'm using a female
din8 socket rather than male din8 plug, maybe one of the pins needs
to be swapped, or something like that.

I'm running Windows 2000, and have no other way of getting anything
onto my new little baby.

Please help me!.. :)

Regards,
             Morgan
