You could charge a spare and carry it, or you could actually make a
regular double AA power pack, although it would be a pain to change....

There are also some solar chargers available, although I have no
personal experience with those.

I have successfully traveled up to three weeks with the Newton without
needing to charge it, you just have to minimize the use of the
backlight, and the general on time as well.
