dear list,

after a couple of mails to the developer, the source code to the
FielNote project is now publicly available from
http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/projects/mobicomp/Fieldwork/Software/index.html

this software is suited for research work, but for those of us who sail
or hike, it might be a serious alternative to GPS Map Lite. the
developer included a software called FieldMap, that is supposed to have
similar functions as GPS Map and supports not only NMEA, but also TSIP
. please pay a visit and take a look. the software manual including
screen shots is available from
http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/projects/mobicomp/Fieldwork/Software/Newton/
Manual/UserManualNewt.html

if there are any developers interested in continuing this work, please
contact me - i have a lot of ideas and a genuine interest for this
project. with its screen size, battery capacity and relative cost, the
newton still seems to be one of the better devices for mobile GPS
applications.

keep the green,
