That's a great way of putting it. I think that 'festive' described the
mood in Toronto as well. During my bike ride in to and back from work,
there were so many more people out enjoying the parks than usual.
Also, our neighbours were all out talking to each other. Everyone was
having parties on their terraces. It was great, actually.

One reporter asked someone about the lineup at the only ATM that was
operating in one town. The person said that the wait was about two
hours long, but went on to ask how often you stand in a line where it's
okay to talk to the person in front of you and everyone is joking and
chatting and having a good time. The shared experience broke down a
lot of social barriers.
